Covenanting, Personal is a modern term for a solemn transaction by which many pious and devoted Christians. have dedicated themselves to the service of God. Such bonds or covenants, written and subscribed with their own hands, have been found among their papers after their death, and it cannot be denied that most of them are exceedingly edifying; but instances have also been known of persons abusing this custom for purposes of superstition and self-righteousness, and of some who have gone as far as to write and sign such a document with their own blood.
