Close, John (1)

Close, John (1), an English minister of the Society of Friends,. was born in 1680, and united with the Friends against the wishes of his father. He travelled extensively as a preacher in his native country, and in Scotland, Holland, and Wales, and died at Alloway, Cumberland, Nov. 27,1715. His care over the Church was great; his advice seasonable, his judgment sound. See Piety Promoted, 2:115, 116. (J. C. S.)
