Cleveland, Newland

Cleveland, Newland, a Methodist Episcopal minister, was a native of Pennsylvania. He experienced conversion when a lad; felt impressed to preach; sought earnestly for better intellectual preparation, but failed, became discouraged, and gave up his religion. He was reclaimed afterwards by the Wesleyans, and labored in the ministry with them about four years. In 1859 he was admitted into the Michigan Conference. After preaching a little over two years he resigned his charge for a lieutenancy in the 12th Michigan Regiment of infantry. He died in 1862.
