City of David
City Of David, a section in the southern part of Jerusalem, embracing Mount Zion, where a fortress of the Jebusites stood. SEE JEBUS. David reduced the fortress, and built a new palace and city, to which he gave his own name (1Ch 11:5). Bethlehem, the native town of David, is also called, from that circumstance, the city of David (Lu 2:11).
