Chester, William, Dd

Chester, William, D.D., a Presbyterian minister, was born at Wethersfield, Conn., Nov. 20, 1795. He graduated from Union College in 1815, and studied at the Theological Seminary at Princeton until 1817. He was licensed by the Albany; Presbytery in 1818, and. became pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Galway, N. Y. In 1822 he-was called to a church in Hudson, where he remained till 1832, at which time he was selected to canvass the states of Virginia and North Carolina in the interests of the Presbyterian Board of Publication. After his election to membership in the board, he held various important offices in it until his death, in Washington, D. C., May 23, 1865. See: Wilson, Presb, Hist. Almanac, 1866, p. ,98; Gen.
