CereâlIs, pEtilius
Cereâlis, Petilius, a relative of the emperor Vespasian, and a Roman general of note in several provincial campaigns (Tacitus, Ann. 14:32; Hist. 3:59, 78, 79; 4:71,86; Agr. 8, 17). During the war of Titus against the Jews he commanded a detachment against the Samaritans (Josephus, War, 3:7, 32), and was active in the siege of Jerusalem (ib. 4:9, 9; 6:2, 5; 4, 3).
