Carniprivium

Carniprivium (or Carnisprivium) is a name said by Macer to be applied to Quinquagesima Sunday, as being the last day on which it was permitted to eat flesh, the Lent fast anciently commencing on the following day, as, he says, is still customary with the Orientals and with some religious orders in Europe. In the calendar of the Greek Church, however, the corresponding term, Apocreos, designates Sexagesima Sunday.
