Campbell, Donald

Campbell, Donald, a Scotch prelate, was of the family of Argyle, and abbot of Cuipar. He was elected to the see of Brechin in 1558, but the election did not please the court of Rome, because the abbot had declared himself inclined to the new doctrines. He never assumed the title of bishop, but contented himself with that of abbot, in which rank he is named in the parliament of 1560. He died while holding the office of lord privy-seal to queen Mary in 1562. See Keith, Scottish Bishops, p. 165.
