Burton, John (1)
an English minister of the Society of Friends, was born at Dent, Yorkshire, in 1682. Early in life he became a Christian, and in due time gave evidence that he would be of service to the cause of Christ as a preacher of his Gospel. His labors extended over a wide field, embracing not only many sections of his native land, but reaching also to the American colonies. After a long life of unwearied service, he died March 23, 1769.
