Bruce, John
Bruce, John an English Congregational minister was born at Great Grimsby, July 7, 1782. At thirteen years of age he was apprenticed to a linen draper at Pontefract; when sixteen years old he wrote A Meditation on Death, published in the Evangelical Magazine; and when about eighteen he entered Homerton College. On leaving college he was ordained, and became assistant minister at Newington Chapel, Liverpool. In 1807 he accepted a call to Newport, Isle of Wight, and eventually removed to Liverpool, where he died in January 1874. Mr. Bruce published, Twenty Sermons to Aid in Private and Family Devotions: — Dorcas; or, Female Christian Benevolence Exemplified: — The Abrahamic Covenant: — and various other minor treatises.
