Bowens, Edward, LL.D., a Protestant Episcopal clergyman of the diocese of Vermont, was, for a great many years, president of the University of Norwich, Conn.; subsequently, about 1867, he became professor of moral, intellectual and political philosophy in the same institution, having resigned the presidency. The following year he was president pro-tem.; in 1870 was professor of ancient languages and political economy, a position which he held at the time of his death. July 6, 1872. See Prot. Episc.
