Blumhardt, Christian Gottlieb

Blumhardt, Christian Gottlieb, a German theologian, was born at Stuttgart in 1779, became in 1803 secretary of the "Dentsche Christenthums gesellschaft" of Basel, and in 1816 director of the Basel Missionary Society. He died in 1838. He wrote, among other works, a History of Christian Missions ( Versuch einer allgmeincn Missions geschichte der Kirche Christi, Basel, 1828-37, 3 vols.), and was for twenty-three years editor of the Basel Missions Magazine.
