Bishop, John

Bishop, John an English Congregational minister, was born in London in 1794. He was converted when eleven years old, joined the Church at the age of eighteen, and from that time was continually in requisition as village, workhouse, and prison preacher. Subsequently he was set apart for the home-missionary work at Wisbro Green, Sussex; ordained pastor at Lewes; preached a short time at Newport, Isle of Wight; labored at Chard and Bridgewater, and finally settled at Axminster, Devonshire, in 1854, where he died, March 9, 1862. As a preacher, Mr. Bishop was faithful, instructive, and impressive; as a scholar, he possessed a vast fund of literary and scientific information.
