Birthwald
Birthwald an early English prelate, was born in the middle of the 7th century, but where is unknown. He was probably educated at Glastonbuiry, and was deeply read in Scripture. He was elected July 1, 692, the eighth archbishop of Canterbury, but was not consecrated until June 29 of the following year. There. seems to have been nothing in the conduct of Birthwald more praiseworthy than the zeal which he displayed in the missionary cause. But although the long episcopate of Birthwald was one of peace and internal prosperity, he was not without his troubles. At the close of his life, his Church contrasted favorably with the condition of the Church in other parts of the world. His death occurred in 729.
