Biberos

Biberos is a term used principally among the Benedictines, to signify the cup of drink given to the monks assembled in the refectory, during the summer, after nones, if it were not a fast; but after vespers, if it were. It was commonly of cold water; if wine was added, it was taken from the usual allowance. There were, however, special foundations, for the purpose of giving the monks, in some houses, wine instead of water for their biberes.
