Bennet, James

Bennet, James a Scottish prelate, was chosen by the canons of St. Andrew's bishop of that see in 1328, and he obtained his episcopate by the collation of pope John XXII, before there was any account of the election. In 1329 he performed the office of setting the crown upon the head of David II, and soon afterwards was constituted chamberlain of Scotland. When Edward Baliol and his party prevailed, Bennet was forced to flee to Flanders, where he died, at Bruges, Sept. 22. 1332. See Keith, Scot. Bishops, p. 23.
