Bekah

Be'kah (בֶּקִע, be'ka, cleft, i.e. part), a Jewish weight of early use (Ex 38:26), being half a SHEKEL SEE SHEKEL (q.v.), the unit of value (Ge 24:22, "half-shekel"). SEE METROLOGY. Every Israelite paid one bekah (about 31 cents) yearly for the support and repairs of the Temple (Ex 30:13). SEE DIDRACHMA.
