Beebe, Alexander, Lld
Beebe, Alexander, LL.D., a distinguished editor in the Baptist denomination, was born at Newark, N. J., Sept. 29, 1783, and graduated from Columbia College, N. Y., in 1802. Shortly after, he became a law-student in the office of Ogden Hoffman, sen., his fellow-students being Washington Irving and James K. Paulding. Having been admitted to the law, he practiced his profession for a time in New York city, and then removed to Skeneateles, N. Y., where he practiced fifteen years, and, as a lawyer, advanced to a high position in his county. Soon after his conversion he retired from his profession, and in 1825 became the editor of the Baptist Register, which he conducted with great ability, retaining his connection with it until a short time before his death, in November, 1856.
