Bay, Andrew

Bay, Andrew a Presbyterian minister, was born in Ireland. He was ordained by the New- Side Presbytery of Newcastle in 1748, and installed pastor of Round Hill Church, N. Y., and of Marsh Creek in Adams Co., Pa. He remained until 1760, and became pastor of Deer Creek Church, which relation he sustained seven years, when he was sent by the synod to the South to supply the vacancies which supplicated help. He visited the south branches of the Potomac, Wilmington, Newbern, Edenton, and Williamsburg. He also travelled extensively in Virginia and North and South Carolina. He made a tour of New England, and was sent by the synod in 1768 to the vacancies above Albany, N. Y. The congregation was, for its convenience, annexed.to the New York Presbytery, which Bay joined in 1773, having. accepted a call to Newtown, L. I., and after remaining a year was dismissed, he refusing to submit to the jurisdiction of the synod. He died in 1776. (W. P. S.)
