Bastide, Philippe
Bastide, Philippe a learned French Benedictine of the Society of St. Maur, was born at St. Benedict of Sault, in the diocese of Burges, about 1620. He was successively prior of St. Nicaise of Rheims, of Corbie, and of other large monasteries. He died at the Abbey of St. Denis, Oct. 23, 1690. We are indebted to him for two learned dissertations, De Antiqua Ordinis. Sancti Benedicti intra Gallias Propagatione, and De Decimus et earum Origine apud Judceos, Gentiles et Christianos. He left other works in MS. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
