Basil of Glemona
Basil Of Glemona, a French missionary to China in the 18th' century, prepared a Chinese dictionary, entitled Han tsu si i (1726), several copies of which have been circulated in China and Europe. It was translated into Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, and French, and served as a model for that published by Guinges in 1813, by the order of Napoleon-Dictionnaire Chinois, Francais et Latin. Julian Klaproth published in 1820 a supplement to the work of Basil of Glemona. See Hoefer, Nouv. Biog. Generale, s.v.
