Barlaam
Barlaam a martyr of Syria or Cappadocia (mentioned by Basil and Chrysostom), who was forced to hold his hand, filled with incense, over the fire of an idol altar, in order that the pain might compel him to open his hand, and so let the incense fall upon the flames. In the course of this torment he died. — Basil, Hom. 18; Chrysost. Hosm. 73; Butler, Lives of Saints, Nov. 19.
