Backhouse, Edward an English minister of the Society of Friends, was born at Darlington, May 8, 1808, and at the age of eleven removed with his parents to Sunderland, where he ever afterwards resided. He began his ministerial labors in 1852, and was recorded as a minister in 1854. He died May 22, 1879. See (Lond.) Annual Monitor, 1880, p. 20. .
