Bachmann, Johann Friedrich

Bachmann, Johann Friedrich a German Protestant doctor of theology, was born July 21, 1799, at Drossen in the Neumark. He studied at Berlin and Halle, and after completing his studies acted for some time as preacher at Lisbon. In 1829 he was appointed preacher of the Louisenstadt Church at Berlin, and in 1845 first preacher of St. Jacob's there. He labored with great blessing in his vast parish, and the government acknowledged his services by appointing him, in 1862, member of consistory, and in 1870 supreme counsellor of consistory. He died July 26, 1876, at Cassel, where he had gone to repair his broken health. Besides Sermons and some catechetical works, be published a monograph on the famous Easter hymn, Jesus meine Zuversicht (Berlin, 1874) :-Zur Geschichte der Berliner Gesangbiicher (ibid. 1856):-Michael Schirner nach seinem Leben und Dichten (ibid. 1859).
