Bacchillus

Bacchillus (Bacchylus, or Bacchylides), bishop of Corinth, about the end of the 2d century took a leading part, with Polycrates of Ephesus and Theophylus of Caesarea. in the Quartodeciman Controversy In A.D. 196 he held one of the councils convened in various parts of the Christian world to declare that the practice of their churches was in accordance with that of the Roman Church. Eighteen bishops assembled at Corinth under his presidency and pronounced against the Quartodecimans. He also wrote a letter on this point which Jerome commends as a graceful composition, but which seems to have been lost before Jerome's time. See Cave, Historia Literaria, i, 94.
