Ayre, William

Ayre, William an English Congregational minister, was born at Petrockstow, Devonshire, in 1800. He was brought up in the Church of England, but afterwards adopted the principles of Congregationalism. He studied with a view to the ministry at Homerton College, but because of ill-health he did not complete his course. Mr. Ayre's first charge was in Northamptonshire; from there he removed to Ullesthorpe, Leicestershire, and then to Long Itchington; from thence to Southam, and finally to Morpeth, where he was pastor for twenty-five years, residing there until his death, April 30, 1877.
