Avaris
Avaris (Αὔαρις), the name of a city on the borders of Egypt and Syria, which the shepherd-kings (Hyksos) again occupied after their expulsion from it, according to Manetho, as recited by Josephus (Apion, 1, 26). Rawlinson (Historical Ev. p. 74) thinks it is a corruption of the name Hebrews. who are referred to as being settled in Goshen. See ABARIM.
