Andros, Thomas

Andros, Thomas a Congregational minister, was born at Norwich, Conn., May 1, 1759. He saw service and endured great hardships in the Revolutionary war, especially in connection with his imprisonment in the famous old "Jersey" ship at New York, in which it is said eleven thousand persons perished. He was ordained at Berkley, Conn., March 19, 1788, where he remained for forty-six years (1788-1834). He died Dec. 30, 1845. He published several Sermons, and A Narrative of his Imprisonment and Escape from the Jersey Prison-ship. See Allen, Amer. Biog. s.v. (J. C. S.)
