Anderson, Rufus Sr.

a Congregational minister, was born at Londonderry, N. H., March 5,1765. His preparation for college was made under Rev. Dr. Morrison, and in 1791 he graduated at Dartmouth College. His theological studies were prosecuted under Rev. Joseph M'Keen, his brother-in-law, the first president of Bowdoin College. After candidating for some time, he was ordained pastor of the Second Church in North Yarmouth, Me., Oct. 22, 1794. For nearly ten years he remained in this charge, when his inadequate, support and impaired health compelled him to ask for a dismission. His next pastorate began in Wenham, Mass., June 10, 1805, and he continued to preach until the latter part of 1813. He died at Wenham Feb. 11, 1814. .
