Alphanus
Alphanus an Italian ecclesiastic, was successively a monk of Monte-Casino, abbot of St. Benedict at Salerno, and archbishop of that city. He attended a council, held by Nicolas II, at Beneventum, and subscribed his own name immediately below his. Peter the deacon mentions some of his writings, as an Account of the Martyrdom of St. Christina: — and Hymns, all given in the Italia Sacra, tom. 2.
