Alexander a Valentinian with whom Tertullian entered into a controversy on the incarnation (De Came Chr. 16 sq.). It is impossible to say whether he is identical with "Alexander the old heretic" whom Jerome names as a commentator on the Epistle to the Galatians (Praef. ad Gal.).
