Aeolus

Aeolus, in Pagan mythology, was the god of the winds, and 'is variously represented as the son of Jupiter, Hippotus, or Meneclea. He reigned over the Eolian islands, near Sicily, viz. Lipara, Hiera, Strongyle, Didyme, Ericusa, Phcenicusa, and Euonymos. He resided at Rhegium, in Italy, or at Strongyle, now called Stromboli. He is represented as holding the winds enchained in a vast cave to prevent their committing such vast depredation as they had formerly; for to their violence was imputed not only the disjunction of Sicily from Italy, but also the separation of Europe from' Africa.
